A filter unit has a structure with a filter bag that is boarded by gas permeable filter walls, and a support unit arranged between two walls of the bag. The unit is formed as a spacer (48) with an even border area (49) for laminar connection of the spacer with the walls. The laminar connection is arranged at the edge of the wall below gas permeable regions of the wall. The spacer is made up of expanded metal and coated with sintered metal. An independent claim is also included for a support unit for arrangement between two filter walls of a filter bag of a filter structure of a filter unit for an exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine.
