The internal combustion motor (10) has an intermediate coolant zone (14) between two cylinders and a corresponding intermediate coolant zone (7) in the cylinder head (1) over the cylinder head gasket (13). Both coolant zones are linked to each other through a gasket opening. The second intermediate coolant zone has a flow connection to a second main coolant zone (16) in the cylinder head. A part-flow of the coolant from the first main coolant zone (15) in the cylinder block (11) goes into the intermediate zones and then to the second main coolant zone with the main coolant flow.
