The method involves compiling a source code outside a data carrier to a processor-independent common independent language (CIL). The code is not necessarily present in an individual programming language. The CIL language is transformed to a native language for the processor (30) of a portable data carrier (12). A set (24) is produced during the compiling of the source code, where the set contains meta data in the CIL. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for the execution of a program by a processor (2) a developing system for generating a program (3) a portable data carrier such as smart card, with a processor (4) a computer program product with instructions for generating and executing a program.
