The safing system for vehicle airbags has a threshold differentiator (4) which determines if signals from sensors (2.2, 2.2) exceed a threshold value. A counter (5) integrates the output from the differentiator and a second differentiator (6) determines if the integrated signal exceeds a second threshold and if so produces a releasing signal.
