A hand grenade with an electronic ignition system comprising an igniter (8) with a receiver in the active body (3) of the grenade and an ignition trigger (6) with a wireless transmitter in an operating part (5) which is removed on throwing, in which an ignition code generated when the operating part is detached is filed in code storage units in the ignition trigger and igniter (8) and then used for coding the carrier signal from the wireless transmitter, the coded signal then being received by the receiver, decoded and used to activate the detonator. A hand grenade (1) with an electronic ignition system (4) comprises an igniter (8) (first ignition circuit) in the active body (3) of the grenade and an ignition trigger (6) in an operating part (5) which is removed before throwing, in which the trigger has a wireless transmitter (9) and the igniter has a receiver so that, after throwing, a carrier signal coded with an ignition code is transmitted from the wireless transmitter via an ignition trigger element (11) in the trigger, received by the receiver, decoded and used to activate the detonator (12). The ignition system comprises a code generator which generates an ignition code with the aid of a random generator immediately before or during the detachment of the operating part; the code is filed in code storage units in the trigger and the igniter respectively and then used for coding the carrier signal generated by the transmitter when it is activated.
