The transporting dishwashing machine, e.g. a flight type dishwasher or rack conveyor dishwasher, has a conveyor (6) which transports dishes (4) through washing zones (10, 12). These have sprays (24, 26) above the conveyor and tanks (18, 20) under it which collect used washing water, which is pumped back to the sprays. The conveyor then passes through a rinsing zone (16) with a collecting tank (46) below it, from which water can be fed back to the washing zones when required. An independent claim is included for a method for operating the machine.
