The method involves irradiating a value document e.g. banknote (1), containing a terahertz-sensitive material with a terahertz radiation. The radiation radiant from the value document irradiated with the terahertz radiation is detected by using a sensor device (3). The detected radiation from the value document is evaluated by using an evaluator (4). The radiation to be detected is reflected and/or transmitted from the value document. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for verification of value documents e.g. banknotes (2) a bank processing apparatus with a device for verification of value documents e.g. banknotes (3) a value document with a security feature.
