The method involves placing a wheel (1) with its contact surface (1c) at an even measuring plate (3a), and transmitting light from a light source (3b). The light comes through a gap between the contact surface and the measuring plate, where the gap depends on insufficient evenness of the contact surface. Intensity of light is detected by a set of light sensors, and the light-intensity lying in a given local area over a preset threshold is a criterion for insufficient evenness of the contact surface of the wheel. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing a contact surface evenness testing method.
