The method involves recording and evaluating voltage and flow of current, and determining and filtering an actual capacity distribution at a solid state actuator. A theoretical capacity distribution for the solid state actuator is set as first, second and third order functions. A difference function is calculated by a difference formation between the actual and theoretical capacity distributions, where extreme value of the difference function indicates a point of time of valve opening.
