The method involves combining data to a virtual concatenated group using the link capacity adjustment scheme (LCAS). The virtual concatenated group is divided into two virtual concatenated groups in the transmission side. The data of two different types are included in the respective virtual concatenated group and are transmitted over a data network. The two virtual concatenated groups are characterized through an entry into a field pertaining to the LCAS protocol. An independent claim is also included for a network unit for a data network, comprising a medium for executing a method of transmission of data in the data network.
