Reduction of the infectiousness of viruses in the production of biologicals (I) comprises (1) subjecting (I) having no or only minimal virus inactivation capacity to chemical and/or physical methods and (2) exposing the pretreated (I) to mechanical shear, which causes significant virus inactivation.
