The present invention relates to a solvent stabilized metal catalytic converter with weakly coordinating counter anions of the formula i,[M (l)a(Z)b]m+ m (a-)whereinM for a transition metal of the group consisting of 3 to 12 of the periodic table, a lanthanide or a metal of group 2 or 13 of the periodic table is;L is for a solvent molecule;Z for a singly or multiply charged ligands is;A- for a weakly coordinating anion, or not;a for a whole number greater than or equal to 1 is;b for a whole number greater than or equal to 1 is;the sum of a and b 4 to 8; andm is an integer from 1 to 6,and, in addition, a process for the polymerization of olefinically unsaturated compounds in the presence of this catalyst, as well as copolymers which are composed of monomers comprising isobutene and at least one vinylaromatic compound, which are obtainable by the inventive process.
