The device has a muffle with an opening surrounded by frames, where muffle contains a cooking space. A door is provided for closing the opening, and a drive motor (9) is provided for moving the door. A lighting assembly (26) has two halogen lamps (27, 28) and a filament lamp (29) for lighting the cooking space, where lamps switched-on and switched-off simultaneously. The lighting assembly and drive motor are connected with a transformer (30) for power supply. The lighting assembly is operable with a supply voltage ranging between 110 volt and 240 volt. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating a cooking device.
