The method involves forming one of groups of secondary devices, and segmenting addresses in address segments (a0- a3, a4- a7, a8-a11, a12- a15). Each of the secondary devices is assigned with the address within the address segments. The addresses to be redundantly structured are transmitted. The secondary devices are controlled and/or communicated over a bus using a central device. The addresses of the secondary devices are locked. An independent claim is also included for a bus device for implementing a method for operating a bus system.
