An extruded profile(11) is initially joined to one or more thin metal parts(10). The resulting component assembly is then connected to at least one plastic component in one or more process stages. One or more extruded profiles are joined in a first stage to the thin metal part(10), which may have holes(12), by welding. In a subsequent operation one or more supporting plastic components are positively connected to the welded assembly by inserting into holding areas(13,14) in the original extruded profile. Further extruded profiles may be connected to an assembly comprising the initial extruded profile, thin metal part and plastic supporting components. Supporting plastic components may be joined to the welded assembly by adhesive. Additional extruded profiles may be screwed onto the welded assembly, preferably onto the thin metal part.
