The sensor has a sensor unit (3) comprising a solid electrolyte tube and a measuring electrode exposed to the gas to be measured. The sensor unit has a sealing ring (25) and inserted in a metallic housing. A terminal lead (13) contacting a measuring electrode (9) runs within an area of the sealing ring in an axial direction. The terminal lead is arranged in an area of a wall of the solid electrolyte tube, where the area is removed from a sealing shoulder in a radial direction and the measuring electrode is made of platinum. An independent claim is also included for a method for production of a sensor unit for an electrochemical measuring sensor.
