The system has laser beam sources with emission wavelengths in fundamental colors such as red, green, and blue, where the laser beam sources emit laser beams in fundamental colors red (1), green (2) and blue (3). Multiple diffractive micro-optical structures are provided on each of multiple optical carriers in optical path of the laser beam sources, where the diffractive structures modify the laser beams and are aligned together. A projection screen (7) e.g. projection layer, represents and superimposes modified light rays produced by the diffractive structures. An independent claim is also included for a method for modifying and superimposing coherent or partially coherent laser radiation for projecting a multi-colored image.
