The arrangement has a jib (37) navigated before a foresail (23) and comprising a tack, which is fastened to a retaining unit (35) movable transverse to a longitudinal axis of a sailing ship and horizontally movable in a heeling condition of the ship. The retaining unit is a sliding carriage that is supported on a rail (25) running transverse to the longitudinal axis of the ship, where the length of the rail does not exceeds the maximum breadth of a ship hull (20). The rail is fastened to the hull at its middle area and supported by carriers.
