The method involves arranging a flexible inspection body (50) at a motor vehicle in such a manner that the body is clamped during movement of an externally operated vehicle part (2). The movement that is controlled by a control device is initiated to clamp the vehicle part with the body. The movement is stopped when jamming of the body is recognized. Data of the control device are recorded, where the data are extracted during the movement. The control device determines the maximum force based on the recorded data, where the force imposes the vehicle part on the body.
