A device for detecting a mechanical stress has a measured value detection device (10) for ascertaining an oscillation frequency dependent on a mechanical stress, and an evaluation device (11) for determining and outputting an output value depending on the ascertained measured value. The measured value detection device (10) has at least one piezo-acoustic resonator element arranged so that by applying a stress by electrodes to the piezo-electric layer a volume oscillation of the piezo-electric layer is excited with a resonance frequency the value of which depends on the stress acting on the probe. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting a stress.
