The device has a number sequence detection unit (1), a subscriber number storage unit (2) for storing a number of possible subscriber numbers, a comparison unit (3) for comparing the selected number (Tne) with the stored numbers and a conversion unit (4) for converting the selected number into an associated IP address (IP-A) when the comparison unit detects agreement of the selected number with one of the stored numbers. An independent claim is also included for a method of subscriber number recognition for Voice-over-IP-telephony.
