A composite comprises a flat mono- or multi-layer substrate (1) and a releasable surface protective film (2) produced together by coextrusion, the adhesion at the substrate (1) surface being set by the choice of polymers in the adjoining layers such that film (2) can be removed in residue-free fashion from the substrate (1).
