The method involves automatically coating individual wires (2) with preferably super-absorbent polymers on their paths from meterware to the on-board power supply in at least one section in the longitudinal direction of the individual wires. The coated sections of the individual wires are selected according to position so the coated sections are adjacent when the on-board power supply has been produced. An independent claim is also included for the use of polymers for sealing collars or spouts for electrical cables of all types.
