Free-hanging rope-like shapeable lighting installation (11) illuminated along its entire length has a flexible bendable but stable covered hollow core (12) which is supported on an assembly canopy (19) at its facing end (20). The covering is thick-walled transparent tubing through whose wall thin fluorescent light cables (15) run, which are attached to a high-frequency inverter (18) on the canopy. A feeder cable runs through the hollow core to the opposite freely protruding front end (22) which has a lamp (24) set with a pot-shaped end piece attached to it.
