Material for coating metals underground and on surface, especially for use in chemically corrosive and/or thermally stressed environments, has an inorganic polymer binder comprising a cold-curing binder containing 0-80% thermally-activated oxide mixture, 0-50% alkali hydroxide, 0-50% alkali water glass and 80-20% other additives (including water). An independent claim is included for a process for producing a coating containing an inorganic polymeric binder, especially the cited material, on a metallic surface.
