The method involves applying a preset voltage on two strands of a subscriber connection line (TAL). A resistor (R a) is connected between earth and one strand, and another resistor (R b) is connected between the preset test voltage and the other strand. Information representing the current that is to be tested within a set test is determined from two information representing the current flowing over one resistor. The orderly functions of a subscriber line module (SLM) are tested based on the information representing the current that is to be tested. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for performing a set test in a subscriber line module.
