Production of colored inscriptions or marks on label materials, which have substrate layer(s) (1) and at least 2 colored layers (2, 2') of different color, the colored layers are ablated from above downwards and at least to the top colored layer (2) by laser radiation or laser gravure in the required areas (4, 5), so that the underlying colored layer (2', 2") or substrate (1) is exposed. An independent claim is also included for plastics film laminate with not less than 2 superimposed colored layers (2, 2') and a substrate layer (1) suitable for this purpose.
