The seat cover (1) and the upholstered base (2) of the car seat are prepared individually before being joined along longitudinally and/or transversally positioned seams. Flexible plastic strips (4) with bulbous lower edges (5) are sewn to the lower side of the cover (1) and grooves (7) formed into the soft padding (2). A line of glue is deposited into the groove (7) by a robot and gripping elements (10,11) guided through the layers (1,2) from below towards the bulbous edge (5). The layers (1,2) are pulled together and the gripping elements (10,11) withdrawn.
