Production of biogas in an aqueous medium comprises fermenting a basic material such as mono substrate; adding at least one additive that is necessary for the growth of the micro-organism processing the substrate; purifying the process water and submitting the process water to volume reduction; and redirecting the process water in the circulation. An independent claim is included for a device for the production of biogas comprising a reservoir (1), in which the mono substrate is minced and transferred under formation of a suspension with water; a main reactor (2), in which the mono substrate is subjected to an anaerobic fermentation; a fermentation reactor (3), in which the non-fermented products in the main reactor is decomposed optionally under other appropriate conditions; at least one gas holder (4, 18), in which the gases that are developed in the main reactor and in the fermentation reactor is collected; and a return device (5), in which the liquid formed in the fermentation reactor is removed, purified, submitted to volume reduction and redirected into the reservoir.
