A continuous liquid steel temperature measurement procedure and unit measures the sound speed in a low conductivity molten steel immersible solid probe made from fireclay by time measurement between a transducer on the top surface and reflection from the lower surface. Independent claims are included for versions with two external probe walls creating Rayleigh waves in the liquid.
