The method involves having an IMS-based service communication system with several serving call session control function units and an interrogation call session control function unit (I-CSCF). A mobile communication system has a policy decision point unit (PDP). To select a suitable S-CSCF unit, user information and network information is determined using a network context server unit. The user and network information are interlinked in the PDP point unit and user-specific and or network-specific selection criteria are derived from the information and used to select a suitable S-CSCF unit.
