Method involves supplying of air mass flow to internal combustion engine (10) which is influenced by a controlling element (18) in air supply (16) . The controlling element is adjusted with movement of preset air mass flow starting from preset adjusting position of controlling element over an offset value of adjusting position. The offset value of adjusting position is adjusted by an offset value for air mass flow. An independent claim is also included for the operating device for internal combustion engine.
