The ratchet has a gear wheel (18) which meshes with another gear wheel (14), where the gear wheels are rotatably supported on a base plate (12). A free wheel safety catch is provided for blocking the rotation of the gear wheel (14) in a rotary direction and for free wheeling in the opposite direction. The gear wheel (14) serves for initiating the torque and the gear wheel (18) serves for releasing or activating the rotatable fastening unit such as a screw. An independent claim is also included for an actuating handle for a ratchet.
