The machine has a tire-like arrangement including pole pieces (5, 5`) that are surrounded by a current coil (7). Yoke pieces (10, 10`) are moved by pole pairs of the pole pieces through a gap which separates the tire-like arrangement against the pole pieces. The pole pairs of the pole pieces and corresponding successive yoke pieces are arranged together transverse to a moving direction in a shifted manner. The pole and yoke pieces are arranged to each other in a moving direction at a distance.
