The method involves recognizing a position by a global positioning system for an object, where firm position characteristics are assigned to a location (W). Object position characteristics are compared by the position recognition. Successive small areas (a1-a3) in the moving direction are arranged with given position characteristics, where the small areas have dimensions in a range of measurements of the objects. The position characteristics are compared with the small area position characteristics for determining a minimum number of position characteristics correlations with the small areas.
