The fastener has a ring body (4) provided with a circular groove (15) for axial fixation of a pipe unit and a fitting relative to one another and to the fastener, where the ring body is changeable in cross section and is elastic. Walls of the groove form stop units (7a, 8a) that cooperate with corresponding stop units at the pipe unit and the fitting in a mounting condition. The stop units (7a, 8a) are formed at the ring body by a radial projection or a radial recess. A slot-shaped recess (5) is formed between two end sections (6a, 6b) of the ring body. An independent claim is also included for a method for connecting a pipe unit and a tapping clamp under utilization of a quick release fastener.
