The transmission unit has two cone friction wheels (2) that are arranged opposite to each other. A friction ring (8) stays in contact with the wheels. A contact surface has cone friction wheels, and a contact surface (12) of the friction ring comprises transverse grooves (24). The grooves run at a certain angle transverse to the direction of rotation of the wheels and/or the friction rings. An independent claim is also included for a method for processing a contact surface of a friction ring.
