New copper polyhydroxycarboxylic acid complex useful as a fungicide, algicide and/or bactericide

Solid complex (I) comprising one or more linear polyhydroxycarboxylic acid ligands, at least two copper ions per ligand molecule, and charge-equalizing ions is new. The polyhydroxycarboxylic acid has a chain length of 5-7 carbon atoms and has at least one carboxy group and at least three hydroxy groups. An independent claim is also included for preparation of (I). ACTIVITY : Plant antifungal; Plant antibacterial. In a field trial against Plasmopara viticola on grape vines, application of the product as an aqueous suspension (600 L/ha, 1.8 kg copper) reduced the leaf infection rate from 92% to 42% and the grape infection rate from 41% to 25% compared with application of water alone.
