The engine has a cylinder head (3), a cylinder housing (1) with cylinder tracks (2), and a cooling medium space that is subdivided into partial spaces (7, 8). The partial spaces (7) are formed between two adjacent cylinder tracks and the other partial spaces (8) are provided for cooling later surface of each cylinder track. The partial spaces (7) have a cooling medium inflow and a cooling medium outflow and are separated from the other partial spaces (8).
