The method involves providing a cold-drawn rotationally symmetric pipe that is made of steel. A raw ring is concurrently separated from the symmetric pipe by cutting using a turning lathe. Chamfer grooves are grooved at an inner and/or outer diameter of the pipe before cutting the raw ring. The raw ring is deformed into its non-rotationally symmetric form in an embossed manner. The deformed ring is hardened, and front sides of the deformed ring are hardly machined. An independent claim is also included for a non-rotationally symmetric ring which is used as a cam ring.
