The method involves gripping an impression cylinder (7) by an automatic controlled crane (1). The crane carries the cylinder, when the crane moves toward a processing station, where the cylinder is processed. The cylinder processed in the processing station is provided in a free holder of the crane. The unprocessed cylinder is transferred from another holder of the crane into the station. The crane is moved to another station, where processed cylinder is provided in the free holder of the crane. The cylinder processed in the former station is transferred into the latter station by the crane. An independent claim is also included for a crane for implementing the method for handling impression cylinders in automatic processing lines.
