The device for mechanical release of a motor-operated parking brake for a motor vehicle has a drive shaft for releasing the parking brake in a first rotational direction, a cage (30) which encloses at least a part of the drive shaft, a drive mechanism (90,95) between the cage and drive shaft designed so that a relative movement of the drive shaft and cage in relation to each other in at least one basically axial direction of the drive shaft effects a rotation of the drive shaft in the first rotational direction, and a first device to prevent rotational movement of the cage in the housing.
