The engine has a fuel injecting mechanism with a pumping piston (18) which is driven to a stroke movement. A connecting region (52) is provided between a drive unit (22) and the piston, where the connecting region is surrounded by a lubricant of the engine. The connecting region is separated from the lubricant by a shielding unit. Lubricating oil or fat separated from the lubricant of the engine is provided in the connecting region.
