The mechanism has a pressing nip (16) that is formed between a shoe pressing unit (12) and a cylinder (14). The shoe pressing unit contains a pressing shoe (18), and several pressing components (20) that are sequentially transverse to a web running direction in an individually or group-wisely controllable manner. The pressing shoe is pressable against the cylinder via the pressing components. A control and regulating unit (22) controls the pressing components for adjusting a preset pressing pressure transverse profile or line force distribution transverly over the pressing nip. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a mechanism with a pressing nip for treatment of a running fibrous material web e.g. tissue web.
