The method involves a reader reading a machine-readable information code using electromagnetic waves from an identification element attached to the object, determining the number of sterilization cycles undergone by the object, comparing with the permissible number of cycles and automatically triggering a warning and/or restricting the operation of the sterilization device if the number of cycles undergone has reached or exceeded the permitted number..
