The method involves displacing fluid from a pressure chamber of a pressure cylinder through a throttle section into an unpressurized adjusting chamber by moving a damping piston (62) along an axle (61) of the pressure cylinder. Viscosity of the fluid is adjusted by supplying the fluid with electromagnetic field of selected field strength for adjusting resistance against the displacement of the fluid from the pressure cylinder. An independent claim is also included for a shock absorber with adjustable damping characteristics comprising with a pressure cylinder.
