The method involves forming a suspension (1) by an individual material, in an electrically conducting fluid. The electrical conductivity of the fluid without the individual material and an electrical conductivity of the suspension or a size are measured directly or indirectly during direct current voltage or with an alternating voltage frequency. The conductivity of the suspension represents a measure for the difference between two electrical conductivities. The parts by volume of the individual material are determined on the basis of difference of the two electrical conductivities. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining the parts by volume in electrically isolated individual material e.g. biological cells, in an electrically conducting fluid.
