The device has a housing in which a pressure-regulated bypass valve (22) and a check valve (18) are arranged, where the bypass valve is opened for pressure-dependent bypass of a cooling medium between an engine inlet (2) and an engine outlet (4). A heater inlet (6) is connected with a heater outlet (12) or is detached from the heater outlet. The check valve is actuated using an electric motor.
