Separating volatile components from mixtures, e.g. fatty acids from natural oils, involves flash or molecular distillation followed by condensation and scrubbing with a liquid in which the condensate is soluble
A method for separating a readily-volatile component (I) from a mixture by heating the mixture, at least partly evaporating (I) and condensing the vapour, involves bringing the condensate into contact, at the place of condensation, with a liquid (II) in which the condensate is soluble. An independent claim is included for a distillation system for this method, fitted with a cooled condenser (5) for cooling the added scrubbing liquid (II).
