The helmet has a helmet shell (2) and a lateral area (3) that totally covers an ear area of a helmet wearer and is fastened in the helmet shell in a flexible manner. The lateral area is pivoted between an applied position and a folded position and forms a cavity for receiving an ear muff protector in the applied position. The cavity is sealed by a cushioned sealing strip (9) that is fastened in the lateral area and extends below the ear area of the helmet wearer. An independent claim is also included for a system comprising a protective helmet and an ear muff protector.
